An Old Dog Can't Learn New Tricks?
Humor from our readers
The dental hygienist was giving her pep talk about frequent brushing and flossing, the latter being something I have some difficulty doing consistently.
I couldn't resist saying, "An old dog can't learn new tricks."
"He can if he wants to keep his teeth," she quickly replied.

A seminary student was leading the music for a small church. His first Sunday
"jitters" became apparent after the choir completed a beautiful special number and, relieved, he turned to the congregation and said, "Let's all stand and sing, 'When We All Get to Heaven' while the choir goes down below."

At our Bible college in the Philippines, students often arrive without a knowledge of geography, so we try to teach them the basics. One day I was explaining how a compass works. To illustrate "north" I asked how many students had been to Baguio City, the summer capital (due north from Manila). Eight hands went up. Drawing a simple map, my next question, "What direction is Baguio from Manila?" drew blank stares.
I phrased it another way. "If you don't know what direction it is, how do you know how to get there?" Immediately a hand went up.
"Simple, sir," the student said. "You go to the bus station, find the bus that says 'Baguio,' get on, and it takes you right there."

My two daughters, Arian and Andrea, and I were leaving with a casserole for a church potluck on the other side of town. Because our route would take us through some rough neighborhoods, my husband, Rick, expressed concern.
I'm not sure his fears were completely allayed when fourteen-year-old Arian said, "Don't worry about us, Dad. We've got broccoli and we know how to use it."
