Kids of the Kingdom
Wit and wisdom from the mouths of babes.
From our readers
The Cat Upstairs Our family cat, Misty, died recently, so we decided it was a good time to discuss the concept of death with our 3-year-old son, Nathan. A couple of days later, our 2-year-old daughter, Maggie, was intently looking for the cat, when Nathan stopped her.
"Maggie, Misty's all gone," he said. "She went up."
Seeing the confusion in his little sister's eyes, he added: "Not upstairs higher."

Ego Check The 8-year-old little girl sat on the edge of her seat in the front row, apparently drinking in every word of my sermon. It was my first pastorate, and I was flattered to have the attention of such a young member. After the service I asked her how she liked the message, hoping to learn that she had gained some nugget of wisdom from this fledgling pastor. She smiled sweetly and replied, "Oh, I just come for the music!"

Hands Off the Fishies My 5-year-old learned a condensed version of the Ten Commandments in Sunday school. The first one, he said, is to love God. He told me God's second commandment is to love your family. And the third commandment, he stated with utmost gravity, is to not steal your neighbor's goldfish. Apparently, they've been eating a lot of goldfish snack crackers in his class.

The Reason for the Season "I know why Christmas is important," Jordan, one of my second-grade students, informed me one December day. "Jesus was born then!"
"That's right," I agreed.
"And I know why Jesus is important," he continued. "It's 'cause He was born on Christmas!"
