Just For Fun
Moon Day; Kids in the Kitchen; Half-Way Day
By Julie P. Cantrell
Kids in the Kitchen
July is National Blueberry Month.
Cool off with these yummy treats.
Blueberry Popsicles
Ingredients:
1 pint fresh blueberries
1 cup vanilla yogurt
1 cup skim milk
Sugar to taste
Blend blueberries, yogurt, milk and sugar until smooth. Pour mixture into eight 5-ounce paper cups. Place foil over the top of each cup. Pierce the center of foil and insert a wooden craft stick as the handle.
Freeze up to six hours. Before serving, dip cups in warm water for a few seconds. Remove paper and foil. Enjoy!
July
At midnight, on July 1, you'll be exactly halfway through 2008. Celebrate this special Half-Way Day by learning about the fraction 1/2. Cut toast in half for breakfast. Pour a cup half-full with milk. See how many hops it takes to jump half-way across the backyard. And if you have any half-siblings, let today be their special day, too.
Fourth of July. Make homemade ice cream. Compete in a fun family spelling bee. Hold sack races in the neighborhood, and go all-out for an old-fashioned picnic in the shade. Top it off with a community fireworks show at sunset.
7 Father-Daughter Take a Walk Together Day.
26 Cow Appreciation Day. Try to find a local farmer who will allow your children to milk a cow. Help them learn about dairy products that cows' milk provides, and end the day with a cold glass of milk.
July 20, 1969: Moon Day
Celebrate man's first moon landing by making your own extraterrestrial friend.
Use Styrofoam blocks or balls to serve as an alien head. Then add toothpicks, Popsicle sticks, pipe cleaners, straws or pompoms to decorate your ET. Name his home planet, and make up stories about the funny foods he eats and the silly games he plays in outer space.
