Who Said It…Wayne Watson
Wayne Watson is a vocalist who accompanies himself on piano or guitar. His music and lyrics, touching equally on human and divine relationships, have won several Dove Awards. He's written about his two sons growing up, and the pain and pleasure that brings. Now that they're grown, Neal has produced a recent album ("He has younger ears that I don't have anymore," Wayne explains), and Adam has contributed to writing several songs.
What He Said…God, by the Numbers
We veer off course when we remove the veil of mystery from the Almighty and proudly declare God understood. When we reduce the Scriptures to a set of rules, we become arrogant. More than a few times, I've thought to myself, Okay, I've done step one, step two, and step three—now God has to do what I ask. What vanity to expect the Creator of the universe to be subservient to our demands!
While much of the believer's life is spent in pursuit of knowing about God, more time should be spent seeking to know Him. Rather than idolizing knowledge, we need to learn to trust Him with what little we do know and with all we don't know. While living out what we know from His Word, we must always leave room for the unseen, unexplainable, humanly unfathomable mysteries of God. Sure, this approach might take us humans down a couple of notches, but it will remind us that we're only clay in the Potter's hands.
