Weekend Wrap-up Theme of the Week: Designer Universe

David wrote (in Psalm 8) that when he looked at the moon and the stars in the night sky, he saw the work of God's fingers. In this psalm, David asserts that God's fingerprints are all over our universe. And Paul picks up on David's train of thought in his letter to the Romans, leveling an indictment against all who discount these fingerprints.
Interact with God's Word
Psalm 19:1-4;Romans 1:18-20,Romans 1:25
- David speaks of a message that the heavenly bodies deliver "without a sound." What's the message (Psalm 19:1)?
- What attributes of God can we deduce by observing the extent and functioning of the universe?
- What evidences of the Creator's craftsmanship do we have that were unavailable to David and Paul?
- Paul insists that people are responsible for the conclusions they draw from observing the "earth and sky" (general revelation). Why does he say (Romans 1:19-20) that this is so?
- What is God's indictment (vv. 18, 25) of those who ignore nature's message?
Spend Time in Prayer
Ask God for the perspective and insight to stand in awe of His creative wisdom and power, and then praise Him for it.
Psalm 19:1-4
1 The heavens tell of the glory of God. The skies display his marvelous craftsmanship.
2 Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make him known.
3 They speak without a sound or a word; their voice is silent in the skies;
4 yet their message has gone out to all the earth, and their words to all the world. The sun lives in the heavens where God placed it.
Romans 1:18-20, 25a
18 But God shows his anger from heaven against all sinful, wicked people who push the truth away from themselves.
19 For the truth about God is known to them instinctively. God has put this knowledge in their hearts.
20 From the time the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky and all that God made. They can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse whatsoever for not knowing God.
25a Instead of believing what they knew was the truth about God, they deliberately chose to believe lies. So they worshiped the things God made but not the Creator himself, who is to be praised forever. Amen.
