Key Bible Verse: All of the good promises that the LORD had given Israel came true (Joshua 21:45). Bonus Reading: Joshua 13:1-7; 21:43-45
What a powerful summary statement Joshua 21:45 is! If we go back and read Joshua carefully, we see how God kept His promises:
-
Not quickly (it took seven years).
-
Not without a struggle (there were many battles).
-
Not without some failure along the way (such as the sin of Achan in ).
-
Not without some loss of life (soldiers died in battle).
But what God said, He did. No one knew in advance how it would happen. But in the end, the Israelites were totally victorious.
Gladys Aylward served as a missionary in China before World War II. When the Japanese army invaded northern China, she was forced to flee Yangcheng, taking with her 100 orphans. As she led the orphans into the mountains, she despaired of ever making it to safety. After a sleepless night, she was reminded by a 13-year–old girl of the story of Moses and the parting of the Red Sea. "But I'm not Moses," she replied. "Of course you aren't," the girl said, "but Jehovah is still God." Isn't that a word for today? No matter what mountains may loom before us, God is still God, and we can trust in Him.

My Response: What faithful act of God in my past helps me trust Him for my future?
Thought to Apply: God takes hold when we break down. We go as far as we can and then God takes hold when we can't go any farther.—A. P. GOUTHEY (pastor)
