Key Bible Verse: For no matter how many promises God has made, they are "Yes" in Christ (2 Corinthians 1:20, NIV). Bonus Reading: Psalm 89:1-4, 29-37
Upon hiring you, your boss made lots of promises: a hefty bonus at the end of your first year, a promotion in two years. He told you about the wonderful business opportunities opening up at this fast–rising company, and promised that you'd be part of them all. Now the economy's not doing so well. Those perks you were promised? Sorry, the boss says no dice. Your company has been forced to restructure. As a result, you've been downsized.
Counting on the promises of a man is always a gamble. So here's a sure thing: God always keeps His promises. No exceptions, as 2 Corinthians 1:20 tells us.
Paul told the Corinthians that because God was so faithful in His promises, he too would strive to keep his promises. But we aren't Christ, and circumstances change, redirecting our intended actions. Paul wasn't able to return to Corinth at the time he promised because the Corinthians still had far to go in cleaning up their act.
But God has it all planned. He knows the circumstances and how His promises will fit in. We can always count on Him to say yes to what He's promised.
