What's in Your Hand?
Theme of the Week: How Good Feels
Thursday, September 23, 2004

Men of Integrity September/October 2004 What's in Your Hand? Theme of the Week: How Good Feels Thursday, September 23 7 5

Key Bible Verse: God has given gifts to each of you from his great variety of spiritual gifts … so that God's generosity can flow through you (1 Peter 4:10). Bonus Reading:Romans 12:6–8

The Bible says, "God has given each of us the ability to do certain things well" (Romans 12:6). Paul emphasized [in today's Bonus Reading] that we're to actually use these gifts and abilities God has given us for the benefit of others. Some people say, "I don't know what to do," or "I don't really have any special talent to give." Moses said pretty much the same thing when God spoke to him at the burning bush. "I'm a nobody."

How did God answer? "Moses, what is in your hand?" For Moses, it was a staff. It wasn't a crown, scepter, or sword. It was a simple stick. And it became one of the greatest supernatural weapons in human history.

So what do you already have in your possession? Speaking ability? Artistic ability? Money? Friendships? All of us have something we can use to accomplish our part in God's work here on earth as we serve one another.

In God's coming kingdom, we'll all have the thrill of reigning with God by using our divine combination of talent and labor, with restored bodies and minds. Meanwhile, we have the opportunity to practice. If this life is really the dress rehearsal for the rest of eternity, let's be totally prepared for opening night!

—John Bolin in Life Unlimited

My Response: I'll take inventory this week of my resources for doing good.

Thought to Apply: Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.

0Prayer for the Week

Lord Jesus, You told us, "It is more blessed to give than to receive." Help me to believe it and find true joy be acting on it.
