When I first fell in love with Harriet, we were students at the University of Texas. Even if I only had five minutes between classes, if I knew she was on campus I'd find her. Besides carrying a full class load, I worked seven nights a week at the state capitol. I got off at 11:30. It took me exactly 12 minutes, using every shortcut, to get to her sorority house. We had 18 super minutes together before I had to leave at midnight.
Whenever I could, my life began to focus on being with Harriett. I was devoting myself to one person. So also, my meeting with God becomes a point of focus because it's a time devoted to His person. God knows how busy we are. He knows when we have interruptions, deadlines, sick children. He's saying to us, as I was saying to Harriet, "Whatever time you have to give, I want it because I love you and want to be with you."
Harriet and I knew we couldn't have a growing, deepening friendship with only 18 minutes. On weekends we'd spend as much time together as we could. The quality of time is the most important factor, but close behind comes quantity.
