Key Bible Verse: Lord, remind me that my days are numbered, and that my life is fleeing away (Psalm 39:4). Bonus Reading:Psalm 39:17
Jeff was dashing out the door on his son's first day of school. "Daddy, will you take me to school?" Derek asked.
"Sorry, buddy. I know it's a huge day for you, but I have a meeting even before you have to be at school."
Derek didn't give up. "Daddy, will you pick me up when it's time to come home?"
"Aw, Son, I wish I could."
"Daddy, will I ever see you again? If you can't leave work to see me, and they won't let me leave school, and you have to work even when you're homewhen?" Derek's eyes were filling up.
Jeff made an on-the-spot decision to shift that 3:00 appointment to 2:00. "Son, I'll be there to pick you up after school. I'll make it happen."
Jeff had repented of putting his job before his family. He kept making the necessary adjustments. Derek saw more of Jeff during his kindergarten year than he had in his first five years combined. Jeff was still successful, but he quit climbing and started living. Derek entered his teenage years with the foundation only an involved father can bring to a child. Jeff had less in his portfolio than he would have on the fast track at the office, but his investment in Derek was priceless.
